Major League Baseball- Updates
The Los Angeles Dodgers saw hindrance to their road to success this Sunday with quite a few problems in their hands. The Dodgers were looking in a worse position since three years, when Joe Torre took over the managerial department. The main problems occurring due to the injury to the left fielder was on the disabled list and the right fielder not available due to him attending the birth of his child started the career as more of a nightmare for them. The determined manager however, made some changes to squad in hope of finding success.
The determined manager pulled in newcomers Scott Podsednik and Ryan Theriot ahead of the order. These changes also saw Rafael Furcal drop to third position for the first time during his career. Joe Torre had a plan that if executed could lead them to victory. The plan being to put in young guns, so that there would be quick, smart runs and base changes all at the same time. He didn’t want the tradition hitting and then just hope for winning.
However, nothing happened as it was planned, none of the players looked to be playing, no base changes, rugged style of playing was displayed by the Dodgers team. This resulted in the Dodgers coming up their fifth straight loss. The sell out crowd saw the Giants defeat the Dodgers 2-0 and stomp their authority. This effectively put the Dodgers in fourth position and a lot of ground to cover.
On the other hand, the Giants were ecstatic about their win as they defeated their rivals, the LA Dodgers. The game saw the San Francisco Giants completing their sweep in the National League West rivals by a dominating performance by their starter Matt Cain. This performance by the Giants puts them in the first spot in the Wild Card rankings and one and a half games behind the leader.
The game saw no consistent performers for the Dodgers keeping in mind the fact that they couldn’t manage to score. There was no other mentionable performance besides Furcal, who drew a one out walk and later took a second on the defensive. He was the only Dodgers player to get himself into a scoring position.
On the other side of the major baseball league, the Rays have put up performances of their own that have not only been impressive but also cemented their position stronger, as the favourites for the MLB title this season. In their own division, they are one of the powerhouses and if Yankees keep on making the slipups that they are, it is quite possible that they take away the division from the Yankees.
Past Sunday also saw Bronx Bombers beat the CC Sabathia and this performance witnessed another team in contention for the title now. This victory moved them within one place of the defending World Series champions and further strengthened their chances of a title this season.
The Minnesota versus the Twins is one game that certainly the spectators don’t wait for these days. The Marines were defeated 4-0 by the AL Central champions, who continued their impressive run that they had during July into the first week of August. The White Sox saw their lead cut down to half-game now only with this victory, making it the 8th consecutive win on the road.
The Rockets outfielder save of a home run looked fabulous but it cost him his ribs and hip fracture. However, Dexter’s splendid effort help the Rockets to record a win in a tight encounter on which they came out on top with a score of 8-7. The Rockets also starting to put up good performances won their 4th consecutive match and kept them in hope for the NL West title.
Other teams that managed to come out on top included the likes of Reds, who beat the Braves 2-1. Twins who beat the Marines 4-0, Red Sox out played the Tigers 4-3, Angels saw themselves rise to the top with 4-1 victory over the Rangers. Cardinals outplaying the Pirates 9-1 and the most extravagant score were that of D-backs, who won 14-1 against the Mets.
