Major League Baseball or not? Andy Pettitte questions his fate in 2011
The Major League Baseball season is over and while the grounds are vacant as the team players are resting, there is a vibrant free agents’ market buzzing with activity. Top teams for the National League and the American League are engulfed in a bidding circus. The top players in the free zone are looking to gain in on multiyear contracts that can give them the kind of security that they need to perform for a single unit in the longer years. The time of decision-making is yet to dawn and options are being discussed as clubs are ringing in with offers.
Teams are looking to build on experience and fresh blood. There are always areas left exposed and in regular league season, gaps open up with injuries and trades. These situations call for a change and restructuring process. The New York Yankees are pursuing Cliff Lee at the moment and this has nothing to do with another story developing on the side. Andy Pettitte, who has been a long time Yankees player, is questioning his role in 2011. The player was economical last year with an Earning Runs Average of 3.28. He won the side 11 games while losing 3. He also managed to strike out 101 hitters along the way.
The veteran pitcher made a few comments at a charity golf game in Texas, recently. He said, “I'm just going to wait and see what my heart wants me to do. Right now, I can tell you my heart's right here in Deer Park, (Texas). If something happens and I play one more year, that would be it. It would be one more year and that would be it.”
The pitcher is a family man and is thinking currently whether to put off his responsibilities or wait for another year, by taking part in the next season. He went on to say during the event, “My kids are getting older and one's going to be out of high school real soon, and I'm not going to miss his whole high school. I want to be able to be here and see some of his stuff, and you can't see his stuff playing Major League Baseball. I just feel like I have a big responsibility here. I have three boys. I feel like I need to be around and raise them, and I feel like we're getting to that point where it's the crucial ages of their lives that I need to be around a little bit more.”
