Major League Baseball share comments on tragic death of Greg Halman – MLB News
The death of Seattle Mariners’ outfielder Greg Halman has caused a deep sadness in Major League Baseball. Besides each club and team member, who has ever been in contact with the player, almost every single entity in the sport feels pain on the tragic stabbing
death of the 24-year-old rookie hitter on Monday, November 21.
The baseball Commissioner Bud Selig issued an official statement from the administration of the sport on Monday.
"Today Major League Baseball mourns the passing of Greg Halman, a member of the Seattle Mariners organization since 2004.”
Bud then recalled the moments of his debut and first home-run at the Major League level. He also paid tribute over his representation of the Netherlands in 2009 World Baseball Classic and participation in MLB international grassroots clinics in Europe.
He concluded his thoughts, on the behalf of the Major League baseball, paying his condolences to the Mariners’ organisation and his relatives and friends.
Michael Weiner, who is currently as the Major League Baseball Players Association, expressed his thoughts saying, the club feel extremely sad on the tragic death of the rookie player. The MLB Players Association extends their prayers for the player and his
family, friends, teammates and organisation, concluded Michael.
Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge had a small connection with the late Greg, but he feels proud to express it in front of the media.
Wedge said, "I only knew Greg for a brief time, but I feel lucky that I had the chance to get to know him. He was a fine young man with a bright future. Greg had a tremendous energy about him, both on and off the field that I loved. This is just tragic.
That's all I can think, that this is so tragic and sad."
Greg was the ninth player from the Netherlands to play at the Major League level. His countryman, Bert Blyleven, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last summer, twitted. "Our condolences to Greg Halman's family in Holland. He played well for us in the
WBC in 2009. He had a lot of promise in baseball and life."
Halman left behind the saddest moments near the end of the 2011 season. He was equally popular in the Dutch Baseball Association, where former MLB outfielder Robert Eenhoorn is a technical director as he only mentioned four words “we are deeply shocked”.
The Police have arrested Halman’s younger brother for investigation, but the exact information will be extracted after proper investigation, stated the Dutch police spokeswomen Patricia Wessels.
