Major League Baseball’s top ten postseason remarkable moments (Part 2)
The 2010 MLB postseason had many great moments that defined the players’ and teams’ abilities.
A moment worthy of appreciation took place during Game 1 of the postseason, with the New York Yankees against the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins, it seems, are cursed. Anybody would think that out of 11 games against the Yankees, the Twins would win at least one. However, Game 1 did not support that idea. After being ahead by three runs, the Twins found themselves tied with the Yankees
in the seventh inning at 4-4. Cue Yankee slugger Mark Teixeira.
Teixeira delivered a blow to the Twins by hitting a two run homer to push the Yankees to victory, 6-4.
Game 2 of the Yankees and Twins is another game that is remarkable. A main focus this postseason was questionable umpire calls. Lance Burkman took advantage of one.
Having two strikes and two balls, Twins’ pitcher Carl Pavano’s next pitch was ruled as a ball, although later replays showed that it was a strike. Burkman’s next swing connected with the ball to send it to the left center field wall, allowing Jorge Posada
to score, which put the Yankees well ahead of the Twins to win the game, 5-2, continuing the belief that the Twins are cursed.
Moment number eight on the list of the postseason’s most notable moments takes place during Game 2 with the Texas Rangers against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rangers were leading 2-0 in the fifth inning when Michael Young came up as the next batter with two men on base and one out. He seemed to get his third strike, but the umpire called a ball, saying that he had checked his swing.
Young then ensued to deliver a three-run home run, sealing the game for the Rangers, and driving the Rays’ bench into an infuriated rage. Later replays showed that Young did a full swing, which means that he should have been out.
Game 5 of the Rangers versus the Rays was a significant one for the Rangers. After winning Game 5, 5-1, the Rangers had advanced to the ALCS for the first time in the franchise’s history.
Last, but certainly not least, on the list of most distinguished moments during this year’s postseason goes to Rangers pitcher, Cliff Lee.
Although, he pitched in only Game 1 and 5, Lee gave a dominating performance. Striking out 21 batters, Lee allowed only two well-earned runs in the 16 innings that he pitched. His splendid performance, as well as that of the rest of the players, led the
Rangers to the ALCS.
Now that most teams have put the postseason behind them, it is time for them to focus on the Championship Series games. With the next game set to start at 8:00 PM ET, with the New York Yankees against the Texas Rangers. The San Francisco Giants versus the
Philadelphia Phillies will start at 7:30 PM ET on Saturday October 16.
These games will also be part of a best-of-seven series, with the winners playing against each other after the final game on Sunday October 24, Giants VS. Phillies.
