Major League Soccer: Chivas 1-1 Philadelphia Union

Major League soccer in the United States continues as a struggling Chivas side managed to end their 6 match losing streak with a hard earned 1-1 draw against Philadelphia.

There was a big name back in the Chivas line up, as Jonathan Bornstein was back from the world cup campaign for USA. Danny was looking to continue his scoring spree against a team who have not looked their best in recent matches.

The match started with 2 of the national team players back for their clubs, but both were not in their usual positions. Jonathan was placed at left wing, where as he plays as a left back normally, Michael Orozco was placed in the centre of midfield, as the manager looked to be more attack minded without making the defence vulnerable.

Philadelphia started the match positively and tested the Chivas defence with a series of attacks early in the game; Sebastian led the Union attack and in the 21st minute Philadelphia scored first following a brilliant move. Le Toux cleverly passed the ball to Danny with a little chip and Le Toux showed immense composure by calmly chipping the ball over the keeper to get his 15th goal of MLS season.

But as soon as the goal went in, Philadelphia Union looked to stay in their box looking to defend what they had, Bornstein made use of that and made an excellent run in the Union box but his header just went over the bar. Ten minutes later Jesus also found space in the box but his header was denied by the cross bar as frustratingly Union kept the lead.

However, they were not to be denied for long, as the Goats finally got their much deserved goal, Akron found the ball at his feet after a had hazard goal mouth scramble and the rookie calmly used his right foot to place the ball in the corner for his 2nd goal of the season. The first half was ended 1-1.

Philadelphia who had suffered due to their defensive approach after taking the lead decided to step it up, and manager sent on the young man Jack Mclnerney.

The 2nd period started at good pace, and both teams tried their hand at getting the winner, Philadelphia shifted to a 3 man strike force with Fred, Le Toux and Mclneney upfront, but there was not enough quality in their midfield to provide the front men with quality balls. While Chivas continued to attack from the flanks mostly. Number of Chivas attacked did reach the Union box but a poor final touch and some good defending meant the score remained at 1-1.

Both teams fought hard throughout in search of a winning goal, but were unable to create a clear cut opportunity,

While there was lack of a well coordinated move, there were some flashes of individual brilliance from number of players, like Mariano and Jonathan from Goats made some sterling runs down the flank but there was not enough support from Justin and Chukwudi in the middle.

For Philadelphia, Union Le Toux and Danny were working tirelessly but there was just that final ball that they could not come up with in order to break the deadlock.

As it turned out when dust settled, it was still 1-1 after 90 minutes, For Chivas it was finally the end of a 6 match losing streak, that is the worst for the clubs history. Philadelphia on the other hand will be happy to have attained a point away from home, a feat that they have managed only once before this season.
