Major League Soccer match review– Colorado Rapids 3-0 vs. CD Chivas
The Major League Soccer season was in full bloom as the Colorado Rapids were looking set to face CD Chivas. Going into the game Chivas were easily the bigger team of the two, considering they had a much better history and record in the league. Last season, the Chivas gave the LA Galaxy a run for their money and seemed to be doing just as well this season.
Experts predicted that this match could go down to the last minute, but were inclined towards Chivas as they expected the team to win the match.
The match was scheduled to take place at the d**k's Sporting Goods park which is located in Denver, U.S.A. The stadium has an attendance of over ten thousand and is one of the better known football grounds in Northern America.
The officials for the match were, Michael Kennedy, Chris Strickland and Eric Proctor. Kennedy was the head official on the night while Strickland and Proctor were his assisting linesmen on the night.
The match kicked off with Chivas initially getting the better of the Rapids. Both teams looked equally as threatening but as the match progressed Chivas started to dominate possession.
Chivas created more of the chances but failed to connect in front of the goal. The Rapids on the other hand were looking to attack on the offensive but their efforts seemed to be half heated.
Frustration started to take its toll on the players and Alan Gordon was the first player to go into the book for a late tackle on the fortieth minute mark.
The first half ended with the score line being nil all.
The second half kicked with both the teams going toe to toe, however this time around the Rapids seemed to have an extra urgency and purpose to their attack. This eventually paid off as the home team finally got the first goal of the game.
On the fifty second minute, Conor Casey struck for the Rapids and saw the home team take the lead. After the goal however it was all about the Rapids.
The team got into their stride and started to play some tremendous football. It was not long before Omar Cummings got in the mood as well. The forward joined in the party and bagged two goals in thirteen minutes to settle the match once and for all. The Jamaican forward scored his first goal on the sixty eighth minute mark, before scoring his second in the eighty first minute.
The match ended with the score line reading three goals to nil in favour of the Rapids and was a call to reality for the Chivas who felt that they were the best side in the league. The Chivas management now knew that they had a lot of work on their hands if they planned on winning the Championship this season.
