Major Leaguers know Miguel Cabrera deserved AL MVP – MLB Detroit Tigers News

On Thursday evening, it was revealed that Detroit Tigers’ third baseman Miguel Cabrera is the 2012 American League Most Valuable Player. It should not be surprise to the Major Leaguers and baseballs fans across the country.
Cabrera dominated the pitchers all through the past season. His ability to drive in runs under pressure helped the Tigers win their second straight American League Central Division title. The 29-year-old posted some impressive numbers during the regular
season, hitting .330 with 44 home-runs and 139 RBI’s.
He continued the good work in the playoffs, playing a big part in couple of Tigers’ American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees. According to the voting carried out by the Baseball Writers’ Association of American, Cabrera took 22 out
of 28 possible votes to beat out the Los Angeles Angels’ rookie Mike Trout.
"I think Mr. Ilitch, Mr. Dombrowski and the front office do a very good job of putting the best lineup in the field," Cabrera said. "They sign Torii Hunter and Victor (Martinez) is back next year. Hopefully we can bring another World Series to Detroit."
"They can use both (old- and new-school statistics)," Cabrera said. "In 2012, we've got to take advantage of all that. At the end of the day, it's going to be the same. You've got to play baseball.”
Trout also displayed some top quality hitting skills in his rookie season with the Angels as he hit .326 with 30 home-runs and 83 RBI’s. He also had the best WAR (Win Above Replacement) in the Majors. He led the Majors with 49 steals and 129 runs scored.
The fact Cabrera was able to beat Trout comprehensively for the MVP gives an insight into the kind of season Cabrera had. He became the first players to win the Triple Crown Award after 45 years as well.
Cabrera is the second consecutive Tigers player to have the MVP honours. Ace Justin Verlander claimed the prestigious award in 2011. It will be interesting to see if he can win also win a World Series next season as that is all he has left to accomplish.
