My future goal is to one day become a Judge. However, my current dilemma is what should be my major in undergrad. I am torn between two majors; Political Science and Business Administration. Political Science appears to be the more practical major, but Business Administration offers a lot of well paying jobs at the end of my 4 years. I will continue to get my JD, however, I need a job in the time being. What should I do? Is Political Science the best route to take.?

  1. You can be an undeclared major for the first two years of university because all majors must fulfill general education requirements like History, Political Science, Math and Science etc. This will give you a chance to figure out what you want to major in.

You may think you want to be a judge, but you might surprise yourself when you find out that you actually don't like Business or Political Science classes. So many people think they have it all figured out when they first go to university and then they wind up with a degree very different from their original plan. I say you go undeclared while you test the waters in your classes and then you'll know exactly what to major in!

If you want to be a judge it really doesn't matter what you major in--you can be a Business Administration or Political Science or even a History or Biology major. What matters is that after your 4 year degree you get a very high score on the LSAT so that you get into a good law school. Then after passing Law school, and the bar exam and practicing law for many years you might become a judge.

    Best wishes!

  2. I think you should take courses in each area and see which interests you most.

If you like your job it's not really even like going to work!

Try some things, keeping your mind open - you'll know which is right.

    Good luck, your Honor!

  3. Wow! My future goal is to become a judge too. I am double majoring in Pre-Law and Religious Studies. I see why you would want to major in Business Administration. It is important to have a job. I think that whatever major you choose would be fine as long as you keep your grades up.

  4. Business Administration and you can continue to work towards becoming a judge later.

  5. try bootyology

  6. Hello =) I went through the same dilemma you are currently experiencing. I personally chose Political Science and am now applying for law school and should enter next Fall. Although Poli Sci is a great major it is not the most practical in the real world. It is also not necessary for acceptance into law school. What I would recommend is getting a BBA that way you can use your Business Admin degree to get a job that helps pay for law school. You can also take some pre-law classes as an elective to help prepare you for what you will see in the future once you're in law school.

For applying to Law School so that you may reach your goal of being a judge, your GPA is important but in my personal experience your LSAT score is what really makes or breaks you.

Hope this helped! Good Luck, future judge! =)

  7. choose the major that you will enjoy the most.  you can always double major.

  8. Information tech is the best

  9. Political Science, then Law School......

Criminal Justice/Police Science, Police Officer, then Law School.......

    International Communications, then Law School.....

You may want to speak with your counselor so you don't end up double paying for coursework that won't get you to your goal the quickest way. Lot's of people work full time and go to school full time, it all has to do with your drive and ambition!  Good luck in your endeavors!

  10. You said "a lot of well paying jobs" you answered your own question.

  11. Try double majoring.  Both should have similar core classes, but if you're positive you want to be a judge, polysci would be my recommendation.

However, things change and a business degree does give you more options

  12. whatever you feel more comfortable with :]

  13. I would say business admin, just because jobs are hard to come by these days with the economy and all, and it is always better to have many options than just a few.

  14. Political Science is a degree which won't land you many job opportunities when you graduate and those you are offered might not be where you want to live.  Business Administration will open more opportunities right away which will help you in both the short and long term since you might not get into law school right away or decide you want a break after 4 years of college.

I'd go with BA but if you want to consider law school I might also think about a major or minor in history or philosophy since they'll give you good critical thinking skills you'll need to be a good lawyer and eventually a judge.
