Major Wright, Matt Forte miss Thursday practice as Bears prep for Broncos – NFL News
Chicago Bears injury woes continue with regular safety Major Wright missing the second practice on Thursday completely.
“[We] don't know if Major Wright will be able to go this week," Bears coach Lovie Smith said.
Wright who is nursing a sprained shoulder is still not able to get back to full practice and will likely sit out in the week 14 encounter against Denver Broncos on Sunday.
The Bears have lost two straight games since regular quarterback Jay Cutler succumbed to a thumb injury and will need a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
If Wright is unable to make it by Sunday, a prospect that looks likely since he has missed all practice sessions, Coach Lovie Smith will turn to backup Craig Steltz.
Steltz replaced Wright against Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday when the first-choice safety could not continue, and put in a well rounded performance making nine tackles.
Steltz was ecstatic at the opportunity and with another chance this Sunday to prove himself the safety is geared up for the game against Broncos.
"You never know when an opportunity is going to present itself," Steltz said. "You've got to prepare each week like you're the starter, and realize you're just one play away. I had the opportunity this past week, and was able to
take advantage of it."
The Bears went on to lose the game 10-3 as their offense failed to gain any significant yards and replacement quarterback Caleb Hanie threw another three interceptions for the second game running.
Chicago’s troubles are also not just limited to the defence with star running back Matt Forte also missing Thursday’s practice session. The injury will keep him out for more than a couple of weeks and will severely dent an already
struggling Bears attack.
Forte’s speed and agility will be greatly missed by the Bears offense that scored just three points last Sunday as Bears turn to Marion Barber to fill in at running back in his absence.
The Broncos come into the game on the back of a five-game winning streak and joint top of the AFC West alongside Oakland Raiders. The Bears will have a very tough assignment on the weekend and would need to play exceptionally well
if they want to gain an entry pass for the postseason.
