Major cartwheeling help?

I'm a cheerleader and I've managed to get by not being able to tumble, don't ask me how, I've been reallllllllyyyyy lucky,

in fact, i made varsity. don't get me wrong, i dont suck as a cheerleader nor does my squad suck. I'm good at everything BUT flipping and we are actually the best in the league and i'm not just saying that because its my team.

When there are tumbling sequences i'm usually stunting so i guess thats how my lack of tumbling skills has gone under the radar.

But the thing is, that i've recently been nominated to be co captain and i'm running against four girls. i have to able to at least perform a simple cartwheel or roundoff.

Ive tried i really have! i feel like a hopeless cause

i cant get my legs over my body,

idk what to do, is there anyway i can get better? are there any special things i can do? i reallllyyyy need help

  1. First off, it depends if time is a factor or not. if you have some time try taking some tumbling classes, that's what i did and I now have a flip-flop. If you don't know of any tumbling places, ask around on your squad and ask some of the really advanced flippers wer they learned they're skills. If you need it right away, ask a friend for help and practice. oh, and build your arm strength up. All you have to do is put one hand on the ground and put the other one down as you kick your feet as hard as you can overand land facing the opposite direction that you started in. good luck on making co-captain!


  2. Handstands help correct that. Some people don't put their legs up over their body because they fear falling over onto their backs. But I have never really seen that happen to someone doing a cartwheel because of the momentum to the side.

  3. well you want to start off in a loung. one leg staight and the other bent. then just really kick off the front leg and out both arms on the ground. once you straighten your leg you keep them straight alway. also in mis "cartwheel" you want to change your hips.

    a round off is the say thing but you land with your feet together. your probably gunna want more power to run a little and really push. good luck
