  1. The most important question to answer is, "What will make me happy?" Regardless of the extra year, if you think you can truly be happy with and excel at that major, and put the degree to good use, then you should stick with it. One more thing to consider - how are you paying for school? Will you be able to pay for another year? Also, be sure this is what you truly want when you declare your major, because changing your mind later can be costly. I know - it took me six years because I changed my major 3 times. Follow your heart!

As a sidenote, bio engineering was my borther-in-law's major, and he's geting his PhD this week. He loves it and it has allowed him to do some very interesting and prestigious research work.

  2. What is the reason you can't get your bachelor's in four years? Is it because you need extra courses and so it's completely impossible for anyone to finish in four years unless they take summer classes? Or is it because you don't have all the college requirements yet so you have to play catch up?

If you really want to do Biomedical Engineering then do it. Why should you have to change it just because you won't finish in four years?

  3. How are you not eligible?  I would find out exactly what the problem is, since any bachelors should be a 4 year course, before making a decision.  If nothing else, you don't have to declare until your sophomore year, so don't worry too much.

  4. You don't need to sweat about it yet.  People change their majors all the time in college.  At 18, not everyone has a solid idea of how they want to spend the rest of their lives.  Stick with your current major.  If you find you love it, you might be willing to go the extra year (or work in summer school).  You are equally likely to discover that you find something else along the way.  Another interest in the same field.  When it's time to make a more committed decision, you'll know what to do.  Go with the flow and don't be afraid to experiment with different classes.  That is what college is about.  Learning about new stuff and finding new interests.  You may be surprised at where you end up in the end.
