Major decline in human population?

When did the only recorded major decline in the human population occur and why? I need this for biology tomorrow, so PLEASE help!

  2. I believe you are referring to the Black Plague, a pandemic that struck Europe and Asia in the 14th century.

    The plague began in central Asia around 1340 and killed ~100 million people by 1400. In Europe 30% to 60% of the population was killed.

    The cause is believed to be Yersinia pestis (aka Bubonic plague), but uncontaminated samples from that time are not available to confirm this.  

  3. Yeah its the Bubonic Plague.  you can see it a big decline around the 1300's on this graph.
