Major winner Shanshan Feng can trouble big names at US Women’s Open 2012
Chinese Shanshan Feng, who won her first major title at the LPGA Championship 2012, is gearing up for another big battle set to be staged at the US Women’s Open 2012 this week.
The third major tournament of the season is going to start from July 5-8, at Blackwolf Run, America, with a strong roster featuring top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
Feng may not be as battle-hardened as the current world number one Yani Tseng or Paula Creamer, her performance in recent tournament reflects that she is determined to prove her mettle once again.
With the LPGA Championship having been added to her victory records, Feng became the first Chinese female golfer to rack up a major title — something that has helped her eclipse the fame of most of the top-ranked
players.
Analysts said that the 22-year-old Chinese has boosted her image following her major triumph, and most of the predictions seem to go in her favour.
Although there are plenty of rising players in the US Open field, and they appear to be at their best fitness levels. However, commentators said that Feng has a golden opportunity to excel and develop into
a world-class golfer.
However, it remains to be seen who comes out as the best contenders at the major fight, as it seems virtually impossible to single out any player as the possible victor.
Despite performing well in recent tournaments, the Chinese prodigy cannot be compared with big names like Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis and Suzann Pettersen.
Speaking to the media during the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, Feng said that she gained so much from her first major win at the LPGA Championship, and she hopes to keep the momentum going in the upcoming
tournaments.
“Yeah, I really gained a lot of confidence after I won because before the major win, I've won on both the European and Japanese Tour but I had never won on the LPGA.  LPGA, which is the highest level of golf
in the world for women,” Chinese superstar said.
“I was still, you know, thinking I'm kind of a good player but maybe I'm still not good enough to win”.
