Major winners to highlight the Volvo China Open – European Tour News
Volvo China Open, once again, will have a star studded field this week. There will be major holders, who will also be playing in Luxehills International Country Club where this event will take place. This event will surely produce some fireworks as some
players are geared already.
Padraig Harrington and Y.E. Yang will be the tournament favourites to lift the coveted trophy. Both these players have won major championship in their careers and Yang will be the defending champion.
The event sponsors Volvo have set total prize money of US$ 3 million. This prize money is surely lucrative and the winner will get a hefty amount of share from this prize money.
Irishman Harrington has been out of touch, since and while, and also missed the cut at Masters. He will be hoping to lead the field by carding a superb under par round on the first day.
China’s ace and top ranked golfer, Liang Wenchong, will also be among the participants. All eyes will be set on his as he carries the flag of the host country. Wenchong is a seasoned player and has played exceptional golf until now in his career. The veteran
will be hoping to make his fans proud by winning the beautiful trophy and the golden jacket.
Along with Liang, Europe’s Ryder Cup winning captain, Colin Montgomerie, will also once again look to make a comeback. He has not been playing regularly in the tournaments but is hoping to show his ability and class during the tournament. Montgomerie will
also be the highlight of the championship as much is expected from him.
Spain’s Sergio Garcia is also among the players. He made a comeback in the Masters, but did not perform well. Garcia had a few under par rounds but was not enough to fetch him the green jacket at Masters.
This week, it will going to be record prize money, which the sponsors have sanctioned. All the top ranked players in this event will be hoping to put their hands on the winner’s cheque and the beautiful blue trophy.
The 32-year-old Wenchong won a tournament last year here at this host golf course. He always prefers playing here as he likes the conditions. Wenchong is charged up before the championship and is confident to lift his first China Open title. He will become
the first Chinese to win China’s National Open. The course is certainly a challenging one as the veteran has to play well during all the four days.
Liang said, “It is important that I have a competitive outing under my belt ahead of the Volvo China Open, my home open championship, which I have been especially excited about ever since Luxehills was announced as the host venue.”
Volvo China open is also co-sanctioned by the European Tour and OneAsia.
