I'm 28, and want to go back to college to major in Psychology. I was in college years ago, and had bad grades, majoring in computers. I want to go back and change majors, but I think my low gpa might cause me problems. is it possible to go back and major in Psychology? what about financial aid?

  1. You can always go back and major in something different from what you started with. Why don't you look at the admission requirements of the college you want to attend. Most if not all colleges/universities have a website. Try contacting the school counselor or adviser by email and ask them the questions you have.

Financial aid all depends on what you're earning if you have a job and if you have dependents or not. Again looking at the school website should give you a bit of info and if you want more detail contact the school.

    Good luck!

  2. Just break these things down into steps.

First, at the age of 28 you're considered a mature student, and on that basis alone, you should be allowed into a social sciences program. You're previous grades were in a different field altogether and they won't matter. You're basically starting from scratch, unless you have any social science courses from your previous time in college.

Next, talk to someone in the financial aid office and ask about student financing. There may be grants available to you as well. So check that out too. Ask the financial aid person about grants that you may be able to apply for.

    Good luck!

  3. You can get your grades transferred if you're going to a new school and see what transfers, or you could leave it off your application and start from scratch. Being an adult you may qualify for special financial aid, as far as government loans that will depend on how much you've received and have paid back.

  4. if you have low gpa and they did not accept you becoz of dat then you might be ending up taking preliminary subjects to pass your gpa. it is very possible. financially, you can have a student loan for the degree. working while studying is not in the best interest in your condition. ask the school councillor for the best!

    good luck!
