Mak Hee Chun, Teo Kok Siang crash out of first round – Malaysia Open Update
The bad patch of the duo Mak Hee Chun-Teo Kok Siang continues as they had to face an early exit from Malaysia Open GP Gold after losing their opening match on May 2, 2012.
Men’s Doubles experts of Malaysia went down against Indonesian duo Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Prima after a futile exercise of 53 minutes.
World Number 37 pair Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Prima dominated their lower ranked rivals right from the beginning as they bagged first match point straight away.
Though, the Indonesians took some time to get on track as both teams remained toe-to-toe until 9-8 score but they controlled the pace of rallies after then and established an unassailable lead with 16-10.
The local duo tried to step forward with some fruitful rallies but it was not enough to tip the scale in their favour and they lost first set with 18-21 score on the board.
However, the veteran Doubles experts Hee Chun and Kok Siang stormed back in following game and aroused the hopes of local crowd by winning second match point.
They were just a nail behind their rivals until mid-game break as they managed to remain close to them with 10-11.
After the interval, they did not allow their challengers to proceed easily and chased them all the way before levelling the score at 18-18.
At this critical situation the Indonesians added two consecutive points in their total to reach one shot away from a straight-set victory but Hee Chun-Kok Siang clinched four final points and wrapped the second set with a concluding margin of 22-20.
It was double trouble for Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Prima in the decider as they were not only competing the Malaysian team but they were also up against a huge crowd who was there to support the natives.
However, the sixth seed couple of the tournament proved their guts by rising against such opposition.
The Indonesian pair got into commanding position well before the interval and maintained their supremacy until last moments. They sealed their victory with an impressive total of 21-13 and cast out the local team.
Now Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Prima will meet Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan in pre quarter-final round of the event.
