Mak Hee Chun - Tan Wee Kiong and Chin Eei h*i - Wong Pei Tty advance in Singapore Open Super Series
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles pair of Mak Hee Chun – Tan Wee Kiong and Women’s Doubles duo of Chin Eei h*i – Wong Pei Tty advanced in the Singapore Open Super Series 2011, as they defeated their opponents in the opening rounds of the event, on June 15, 2011.
Mak Hee – Tan Wee proved their worth against top shuttlers of Thailand, Sudket Prapakamol and A. Songphon, in a superb match which took three sets of top-class badminton from both sides.
The Malaysian pair, which is currently ranked at the Number 52 spot in the Men’s Doubles world rankings, displayed a tremendous game in the opening set of the match and won it by a decent gap of 21-16. However, the duo failed to produce the same form in
the second set and lost it with a 16-21 difference. In the deciding game, the Malaysians showed no mercy to their Thai opponents and bagged the game by a 21-12 margin.
It was a good start for Mak Hee – Tan Wee, who have resumed playing together after a gap of three months. In the Men’s Doubles round-of-16, they will be up against Japan’s Noriyasu Hirata and Hirokatsu Hashimoto.
Malaysian Doubles coach for back-up shuttlers, Tan Kim Her, is currently observing the performance of the pair for future planning. If the duo of Mak Hee – Tan Wee fail to produce better results in this event, the coach will look forward to change the pair
and try some new combinations to put things on the right track.
In the Women’s Doubles matches, Chine Eei h*i – Wong Pei Tty delivered a super performance against Paulien van Doormalen – Lotte Jonathans of Netherlands. The Malaysians defeated their opponents in a straight-set match with a 21-14 and 21-17 score.
Their coach, Pang Cheh Chang, expressed his views about the performance of the duo and said, “It has been three months since Pei Tty and Eei h*i resumed their partnership. So far, they have been moving in the right direction. Hopefully, they will go far
in this Singapore Open. It will certainly give them extra motivation ahead of the world championships.”
In the Women’s Doubles round-of-16, the Malaysian ladies will take on Nadya Melati and Vita Marissa of Indonesia.
