  1. Here's a possible configuration.

Downsides:  A bit more than you wanted to spend.  Not the best Crossfire  motherboard.  Doesn't include a third-party heatsink for that CPU.

Upsides:  Quality components. Will run current games pretty well.  Vendor and prices are Canadian.

    Cooler Master 690:  $ 73

    Asus P5Q-E: $ 168

    E8400:  $ 205

    Corsair 650tx:  $ 91

    Samsung CD/DVD burner: $ 29

    4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800 memory:  $ 80 or so

    Total: $ 1056

  2. Go to the link and look what they have for gaming computers and the specs. Then write down what you would like on specs:CPU,main board,GPU,PSU,HDD,RAM,etc.then look what the prices are for each item.Add all together and compare if you can't get it cheaper pre built.

  3. Mobo-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    CPU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    GPU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    RAM-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

    Heat Sink-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

The subtotal is $924, which doesn't include tax or shipping.

  4. If you want expert advice, then this is likely not the place to ask? (Someone will get on my case for saying so: sorry.) Subscribe to the magazine CPU (stands for Computer Power User). Lots of hints. They'll also give you an "in" to their website. Lots of experts there, to ask and answer. Check it out.

  5. I was able to put this together for about $940 (USD, including shipping):

    antec 900 case= $100

    ASUS P5Q Deluxe mobo= $200

    Radeon Hd 4870 graphics card= $280

    OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI 600W= $90

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 = $190

    Rosewill RCX-Z775-EX 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler = $50

*this mobo does have SLI/Crossfire, but it will not support this high end of a GPU in Crossfire, if u want cross fire you can get two HD4850's (which would out perform a single HD 4870).

You will need to buy an OS, u can get vista for around $100 in newegg too.

  6. check out tigerdirect.com

  7. There is no way that guy is buying a E8500 for $90 shipped he is full of crapola...  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...  If he can then we are all in line for his CPU...  Makes you wonder about the price of the rest of the parts he listed.
