Question:

Make DSL internet faster?

by  |  earlier

I have DSL high speed internet from Qwest, it advertises that what I am paying for can download up to 1.5/mbs per second, but I'm stuck at about 25/kbs per second. Is there any way to make it faster?

  1. many things can slow it down. but start with calling your DSL provider

  2. www.speedtest.net

There you can see your real internet speeds. You downloading at 25k/bs can be because of the host, location, or just your network. Goodluck :)

  3. Delete your history.

Turn off your modem and turn it back on.

Check your phone jack if you have it.

Maybe your modem is messed up.

    Check your wires.

Maybe a wire line outside of your house for your whole neighbourhood is messed up.

Call your internet provider to fix those and help you!

Hope I helped and choose me for best answer!

  4. where did u get that number from?  it could be a lot of things

  5. A noisy and bad phone line can really kill DSL.  AS a double check, use all of these speed check sites:

    http://www.speedtest.net/

    http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-t...

  6. Get your max speed: http://speedtest.net

    Connection optimization: http://www.dslreports.com/

  7. That's probably 25KBytes per second.

But, there is a program called TCPoptomize that can make some adjustments to your network settings and try to speed things up.

But it may be a line problem.  So it would be worthwhile to report it to Qwest.

Oh.  And make sure that you have those filter things on all your telephone equipment.  That includes your TVIO or satalite box (if you have either), your fax or all in one printer, your caller id box, etc.  But if you have an alarm system, call your security company and have them install a DSL filter on their ewuiptment too.

  8. Get into the 'home page' of your DSL modem (from your browser) and hopefully you can see what the hardware is reporting as your speed.

Typically, it would be an address like 192.168.1.1, you may need a usercode/password, try admin/admin.  There are so many different modems that it's hard to direct you exactly, but the point is, if you manage to get your way in there and the download speed reported is substantially less than your rating, you know you have some kind of hardware problem outside your PC.
