I need to make a list of activities that I do/enjoy for my French class. I am going to say that I play the piano, sing, paint, travel, read... but I'm not sure as to whether or not I conjugate each verb. Je joue le piano, chante, lire, le voyage..... or je joue le piano, chanter, lire, voyager

  1. try using www.freetranslation.com to check your answer.  I would conjugate the verb.

  2. In English we use the -ing form of a verb as a noun (gerund) or can use the "to" form (infinitive). We can say "I like to sing" or "I like singing", meaning the same thing practically.

    In French use the infinitive,

    J'aime chanter.

  3. Yes, you have to conjugate the verbs to say that you are the one doing them. Otherwise it sounds like "I play the piano, to sing, to read, the travel". You either have to conugate every verb, or say something like "J'aime jouer le piano, chanter, lire, et voyager". That says "I like to play the piano, sing, read, and travel". It makes sense and is grammatically correct.

  4. you can make it easy on yourself by just saying "J'aime" and then leaving them unconjugated. J'aime jouer le piano, chanter, lire... blah :]
