While revealing his decision on Tuesday, Ntini said that he was retiring from all formats of international cricket, but would continue playing domestic cricket.
The 33-year-old South African pacer, who has not played for his country since December 2009 said, "Today is the day that nobody wants to happen in their careers and say goodbye to cricket."
However, the Cricket South Africa maintained that the retiring pace bowler would bid farewell to the international arena “in Proteas colours" in a send-off T20 game against India on January 9, 2011.
Born on 6th July 1977, in Eastern Cape Province, Makhaya Ntini is the first racially black player to make up the national team of South Africa. The retiring cricketer is a fast bowler, who tends to deliver from wide of the crease with brisk pace. He is the only third South African to pick up 300 Test wickets after Allan Donald and Shaun Pollock. His highest ranking in the ICC Test match bowling ratings is No. 2. In the lucrative Indian Premier League, Ntini plays for Chennai Super Kings.

He leaves international cricket as South Africa's second highest wicket-taker in Tests; Ntini claimed five-wicket hauls in an innings 18 times while in four Test matches he picked up 10 or more wickets. While 173 One Day International appearances saw him claiming 266 scalps at an average of 24.65. Ntini had not made an ODI side since April 2009.
