South Africa’s former bowler, Makhaya Ntini, fears the inconsistency shown in the South African bowling could cost them the ongoing NatWest series against England.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 ensured a strong comeback was made by his side following a defeat at the hands of the visitors at Southampton. Since then, the Poms have won the last two meetings and made certain of taking an unbeatable lead in the series, along with regaining
their world number one ranking in the ODIs.
Quite conversely, the Proteas have so far lacked the balance and certainty in the ODIs, which they so emphatically displayed during the Test series.
The visiting bowlers have failed to counter the resistance offered by the English top and middle-order batsmen with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 leading their side to victories.
While Ntini, 35, felt encouraged by the over-all progress of the South African bowlers in the tour, but he feels the visitors’ bowling should need to gel as a unit.
"From a bowling point of view, the consistency has not been there," he said. "We tend to rely on the front-line bowling attack and if they don't get wickets, our whole bowling line-up collapses,” Ntini said
The series has so far been dominated by the English bowlers with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842 however, has remained the weakest link for the Proteas, picking up just one wicket at 138.00 in four
matches. The left-armer is expected to make way for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 for the deciding match at Trent Bridge.
"If we get two wickets upfront in the first 15 overs, everything changes, so we need to have a different strategy when it comes to the bowling attack,” the former spearhead added.
"When they are five wickets down, that's the time when we need to be more aggressive to make sure that we don't give away easy runs and make the batsmen work for their runs."
The home side will indeed start the match on a high note, knowing that a win will see them stretch their home winning streak to eight (series). http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 already enjoys a strong record against the Proteas in their recent ODI meetings - the Poms have won in
ten of the 12 previous meetings.
