  1. Gold is a heavy metal, and it will be very hard to do at home. If you just melt it down, and try to add another metal (zinc, silver, etc.) The added metal will float on top of the gold, and not mix. Your best bet, is to dissolve the gold in a acid solution, and electroplate the gold to the surface of the metal.

  2. Depends... Pure Au is 24 carat.  Gold jewelry varies depending on who makes it but typically 14 - 20 carat or (14/24 = 58% Au to 20/24 = 83%) so making 88% Au would be on the high side of most gold jewelry.  There are many different Au alloys used in jewelry, different alloying elements and in different amounts give Au different colors and different properties (melting characteristics, hardness, strength, ductility, etc).   Google gold in jewelry and you can find compositions and read about the color, etc.  good luck

  3. The gold content is constant, so:

    250 = 88% * ?

    The amount required is 284.0909.

    You have lt alloy it with 34.0909 grams of something else,
