Making Pandora PSP Battery

What exactly are you cutting when you cut the leg of that little circuit thing on the PSP Slim Battery. Can't the battery overheat or catch fire or something from tampering with it and bending/removing the little leg of the circuit to make the pandora battery? Please answer!
