  1. Hi sbac755,

Like any other game that is based on chance, gambling on fantasy football is just that.. gambling.  Can you make a year's salary playing fantasy football?  Sure.  You can also make a year's salary pulling slots at your local casino.  Will the vast majority make a year's salary? No, but there are exceptions.

Most websites that offer big money prizes have leagues with thousands and thousands of players, so your odds are extremely small.  In smaller leagues (which I play in), we normally throw in around $125 each for the season, which means we can give out weekly prizes of $40 and the top 3 teams get paid roughly $600, $250, and $175.  It's real money, but its more like a friendly bet than making a living.

So, like anything else in life, the payout is weighted by the odds involved with winning the prize.  If you want to win big, pay your money and acknowledge that your odds are low.  If you're playing for fun and bragging rights, toss a $100 for your league fee and do it for the fun of it.

As to why fantasy football is fun, its a way for men to prove their vast sports knowledge to their peers.  To me, bragging about a league championship and dogging my fellow owners during the offseason is much more rewarding than winning a few hundred dollars.  It's all about talking trash and bragging rights.

Another reason why fantasy football is so popular is because it makes almost every game enjoyable to watch.  10 years ago the only games worth watching were those involving your favorite team, but with fantasy football watching Houston play the Falcons can be exciting if you have a fantasy player on either team.  It simply adds to the enjoyment of the NFL season.

    Hope this helps.
