Bestbuy in my area has no longer sell vhs camcorders, they only have Digital/Hardrive, Minidv, Dvd, High definition Camcorders. What camcorders should I get at the cheapest price in order to make a VHS?

If Im getting a MiniDV, what kind connectors/output does the camcorder need to have or I need to get in order to connect to my VCR for recording?

  1. Your VHS home deck needs to have A/V (RCA) inputs for recording. If it only tunes off an antenna, then you are out of luck. With digital TV, very few devices come with Channel 3 modulators anymore. Ask the salesperson if the camera you want has RCA A/V output, virtually all come with a cable, that is how you view on a TV set as well. The camcorder either comes with a cable set that plugs into the VCR (video/right/left audio) or you will have to buy a jumper that plugs into its output jacks (less common).

FYI, if you are shooting indoors, many digital still cameras have a video out that you could feed directly to the VCR!

  2. Just merely connect the MiniDV camcorder to the VCR via the A/V inputs and you can copy the MiniDV recording to the VCR.
