How would I go about making a ball gown skirt?

can I just layer tulle to get it puffy? I dont really want to use a petticoat or a hoop skirt. Is this possible?

  1. I like to make my dresses/skirts poofy by adding a bunch of tulle underneath. Get the thick plastic kind and then put lining on the part that touches your skin so it's not itchy. A few yards of that will make the skirt very poofy.

  2. I love the layered tool idea.  Their is a movie called Heart breakers and in one scene the younger girl gets married and picks her wedding dress, it was amazing.  Full tool.  Didn't look at all like a hoop or petticoat.  You might be able to find it online under the movie sight.

  3. you can cut a large circle out of a piece of satin (or your preffered choice) and cut a smaller cirle the size of your waist in the centre. Hem the ends.

Layer with tulle on the inside (heaps and heaps if you want it puffy) then sew to top part of dress!

  4. My sister's prom dress was a bunch of tulle underneith.. actually mine was too!  But they were poofy a-lines, not real ball gowns.  but i guess it depends on what you mean by that.  It may be a tad itchy though.  You may want a slip.  I'd wear one even if you dont think you want one.  Tulle against skin is really incomfortable.. especially when you're sitting on it.
