1. does having a very high aperture best for making a blur picture? since lens's are so expensive , if i were to get a lens with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, would that do me justice or do i need a lens with a aperture of 2.8 to make it good?

2. can I take portrait shots with a macro lens? i heard the pictures come very very sharp, would I need a soft filter?

  1. What do you mean blur .... do you mean camera movement?  Do you mean Bokeh?

There was a very famous editorial photographer who shot all his portraits using a macro lens.  You can always soften sharp shots ... but not the other way around.

My buddies who use Canons use the 24-70 mm f/2.8 to shoot their fashion and glamour shots ... not too much different than portraiture.

    I shoot with a 24-70 mm f/2.8 on my Nikon D300.

  3. HI Seura.   Very interesting question.

    1.   Having a lens with aperture of 3.5-5.6 or one with 2.8 will not determine whether or not you will get good pictures.  The 2.8 is a faster lens which means it is better for lower light situations.   My son has the 28-135mm.  I have a 28-200mm.  Hands down,   I prefer the 28-200mm and now that he has seen the difference of what both do,  he likes mine better.

If you are wanting the background blur to your picture,  I find the longer the zoom,  the nice the blur effect.

    2.  You can take portraits with a macro.   The ones that I have used are the 60mm and 105mm.  These lenses are particularly sharp because of what they are intended to shoot.

I don't normally shoot portraits with our macro lenses,  but I have experimented enough to know that they have the capability.
