I'm going to a Masquerave Ball this Friday, and i want to have a unique mask. My plan was to buy fabric that matches my dress and make the mask from that. i have the basic idea of how to do it. I have a palstic eye mask that I was going to cover with the fabric, and sew the edges if need be. But I was wondering if any of you have tips for me? For one, what is the best way to attach ribbons to tie it with? Is their an alternative to sewing for ataching the fabric?

  1. i went to a masquerade ball in november. i like your idea but the whole point of getting 2 points is by helping you. Mine was just a regular mask you can buy at A.C. Moore and i designed it with glitter glue. mine is the eays way out. lol. how about make a phantom of the opera sorta mask. the one thats half a mask like this pic:

or use feathers like this mask:

but make less feathers on it so it is easier to handle

  2. you might want to try spray adhesive instead, it might turn out neater that sewing (unless you're a master seamstress).  As far as the ribbons go, punch holes in the plastic and tie the ribbon there.

  3. Certainly a spray adhesive can work for the general fabric to mask shape, but you'd need to know how the adhesive will react with the type of plastic.

Low temp hot glue is great for embellishing.

Tying ribbons to keep it on your head, can be done with a paper punch, then support the holes with the fabric/ tape/ etc. so the plastic won't tear.

    Just my two "sense"

Since we don't really know the design, the theme, the colors, etc.,,,it's pretty much general hints we can give.

  4. I don't know how you would sew material to plastic.  A glue gun will probably work well.

I'd leave a little extra material on the sides (that exceeds past the sides of the mask) - and then sew the ribbons to that.

    Sounds like a great party!!
