Making a medal detecter with a radio and calulator?

Question

Well i did everthing right.. get a am radio.. put the tape it on the top.. and turn it on.. hear a beep sound..

But mine.

when i turn the calculator i just hear a beat each sound.. when i go near medal.. it dousn't do anything just same sound.. what am i doing wrong?
