Question:

Making a perfume.?

Okey this is what i got:

1.Sandalwood&absolute rose oil

2.hyacinth petals

3.vodka

Do I add the sandalwood first ?

do I put the vodka over the petals?(I only have a few)

How can I bring the scent out of the hyacinth petals?

Someone please help!

  1. You can put the flower petals into a steam distillation apparatus which supplies a steady flow of steam to the petals. You need a lot of petals. Then the steam is condensed.  The steam brings along with it the volitile organic compounds which are usually the fragrance of the flower.  The condensed liquid usually has a water phase and an oil phase which is the fragrance.  You can extract the oil phase using organic solvents and a separatory funnel or you may be able to "salt" out the oil by adding concentrated NaCl solution to the condensed liquid.  Then the phases can be separated using a separatory funnel.

    The flower oils are dissolved into a small amount of alcohol (your Vodka) in order to reduce viscosity and promote solubility of the oils.
