Question:

Making a quilt for a baby boy - I need ideas!?

Okay.

So I have a baby brother, he's just turned 9 months old and I want to make him a quilt for his birthday.

I'm a total girly girl and basically have no idea what colours to make the quilt.

I want it to be something that will grow with him, that would look acceptable to have on his bed even when he's in his teens.

I was thinking greens.

I don't want red because I want it to be a calm colour.

Light blue is nice as well but is it maybe a bit too babyish?

Any help (especially from guys) is most welcome!

  1. Baby Blue and White <3

  2. your such a lovely sister

    soccer balls?

just a basic pattern like checkered?

ps will you be my sister?

  3. I like greens and I agree that light blue is not the best, but maybe dark or regular blues would be good.

    Good luck!

  4. I Don't think blues are too babyish...my 26 year old fiance still has a blue blanket :)

  5. Hey so I love when people add a personal touch. It would be perfect to make a quilt that has various blocks of color like the first one below. And as he grows older, or each year he can make a square to put ton the quilt (Sew on). They can be iron ons, painted or even sewn.

Check the first one out..and the other few I like a lot!

(Or you could make a quilt that looks like a big checkboard. Then you could play games with him, and when he wants to use it as a quilt he can. I would decorate coasters and pieces)

  6. i'm a 17 yr old guy n i say either tan/green stripes or tan/navy stripes...i have a tan blanket now and prolly always will

don't do themes bc interests change n u prolly dont even know his interests yet (but if u were doing themes, do "rockstar"...im a jock that listens to rap n i still that wold be cool) and it would be really cute to see a little baby rockstar

  7. Dark Blue and Dark Green. Those colors are acceptible when older.

  8. I think greens would work very well, you might try combining them with yellows (just don't use any that are too "babyish".) You might use white as well to add some contrast. Good luck.

  9. you should do green and sports. boys will keep liking sports forever.(i know from experience.) green is a calm color and that will help!!!! hope this helps

  10. Stick with blues. mostly darker ones, maybe some green or red.

  11. How about old jeans as the material.  Go to the goodwill store any yardsale and buy the cheapest, softest, most worn jeans you can find.  Cut squares out of the parts that are intact.  You might even include a couple of squares with the back pocket on them for him to hide 'treasures' in.  It will be super-cool and still be a great thing to have as he gets older.

Hint:  at the yard sales, if the zipper is broken or some other really bad defect, you might get them for free.  Or ask friends and family for old throw away jeans.

  12. blue, green, orange, it really doesnt matter you could ask him what his favorite colors are and you could do that

  13. mix complimentary colors with the main color being green. Purples, yellows, blues, oranges, creams...
