Making a website server ?????

How can i turn my pc into a website server, where i can host my own websites ? Are there any free programs that are used for this purpose ? please leave source. thanks.

Install apache, but you cannot get a .com domain for free. So you can access it as http://<ip address>

Sure, you can turn your computer into a web server.  You are opening up your machine to all sorts of attacks, so I would make sure you have a firewall device of some sort to limit the traffic on you machine.  

Think of your machine as a house with lots of windows and doors.  The reality is that you only need Web access and FTP to and from your web server, so you need to close the rest of the windows and doors.  That is what a firewall does.  Those other openened "ports" allow gremlins in.

The easiest way is Apache.  It is pretty much just an application that makes your computer a web server.  I would bet that you have an average internet connection, which means when other people access your computer, it will be slow.  But go for it.
