Making an electric bike. Wich are the best motors?

Can anybody suggest a electric motor for my electric bike conversion thats fairly cheep?. The speed dosent matter that much it dosent need to go too fast. Also how much batteries at whant volt would it need to run?

  1. electric bike laws in the UK limit what you can legally do.

    the Cheapest would be a brushed hub motor and controller with SLA Lead Batteries.  wilderness, golden, and crystalyte make them.  or an old Heinzman off a used Iacocca ebike.

    More volts means more speed and power.  48v is nice.  buy a controller that will go up to 48v.

    better would be a brushless chain drive  cyclone kit from Australia, but that is some real money.

  3. Look for the engines of the used Vespa motorcicles...they have electric motors also.
