So my parents are in jamaica for vacation and since the room phone doesn't work they haven't contacted me in the past 4 days. I'm trying to reach a cell phone number. Do i have to hit any special area code before or something?

  1. yeah...

cuz that's what my friend does when she calls 2 the philippines...

also, she buys cheap 'calling cards' so that calling long distance won't cost her a lot...

    ^this is landline fone 2 cellfone...^

but if u mean "cellfone to cellfone" , i guess u need "roaming" 4 ur cellfone so that u can call there... i think ur parents' cellfone should also b in "roaming" too... but, i think "roaming" just costs a lot when u call or text a message 2 them...

    ^hope these help a bit... (: ^

  2. Just 1 and the area code plus 7 digit telephone number.

    In this case 1-876-123-4567

if you cant get through there may be network issues, in Jamaica the major carriers are Digicel,  and Cable and Wireless.

If you use a calling card to call a cell phone will eat up more minutes than a landline. Also perhaps you should be cautious as to how much you keep tring to call because depending on the US carrier they may just bill the call from send to end, versus when the person actually answers the phone. this ultimately could be costly cause u are billed about 1.50 per minute for direct calls(maybe higher if you dont have an international dialing plan) that dont even connect.....

  3. If its a Jamaican cell phone u only have to put 1 then the country code , 876 then the number

  4. Well to call Jamaica from the states you will need to dial 1 then the country code which is 876 and then the phone number. So in other words you will dial 1876 and then the phone number which should be 7 more numbers, only if it is a jamaican cell phone. HOpe this helps.

  5. The area code in Jamaica is 876 and you always have to dial 1 infront of every number you call internationally.

  6. The cell phone that you are trying to get: which country did it originate in? Is it from the US, the UK or Jamaica or some other country? Do they have roaming activated on that mobile phone?

If roaming is not activated then doh even bother calling that phone...you'd be wasting your time.

I ask because it would be treated as a roaming/international call. For example, say I'm from T&T and I travel to Jamaica and have my cell on roaming, anyone calling me from T&T would dial my cell as if I was in T&T (without the 1+ country code in front of it) and it would call me without them knowing that I was in Jamaica (of course my cell bill will be on the astronomical side for that month though).
