I'm trying to make my own chinese chow mein noodles at home. I bought chow mein noodles from the grocery store. The package doesn't say to cook it first, but tto add it to the veggies and then just cook it for 3 mins. I thought you were supposed to boil the noodles first, at keats for a few minutes? Also, I checked out some of the recipes and they use cornstarch and sugar in the noodles? Are they really necessary? Is that what makes it takes good?

  1. Hello

Well I am a big fan of chow mein noodles!

And I think I can help you in this situation...

Here are some step by step instructions on making chowmein noodles:

1-Cook the noodles according to the directions on the package.

IIF NO directions are available, cook the noodles in 8 cups of boiling water until they are cooked “al dente” - tender, but with a bit of resistance in the middle.

Use a wooden spoon, or cooking chopsticks to separate the noodles while they are cooking.

2-Rinse them in cold water and drain the noodles throughly then toss the noodles with sesame oil.

(This helps keep them from sticking together)

3-In a 12-inch non-stick skillet with a non-stick coating, heat 1 1/2 tablespoons oil on medium-high heat. Tilt the pan and move it around so that the oil coats the entire bottom.

4-When the oil is hot, add the noodles to the pan and use a spatula to push the noodles into the pan.

Cook the noodles until they golden brown on the bottom (about 5 minutes).

Press down on the noodles with a spatula during cooking - this ensures that they cook evenly.

5-Once the noodles are slightly browned, remove from the pan and set aside.

6-Re-oil your pan and add your desire ingrediants.

    (chicken, shrimp,pork,beef, veggies... etc..)

Cook all your ingrediants and add your chow mein noodles.

    7-For the sauce....

Add soy sauce, oyster sauce and season with some salt and pepper!

    THATS IT!

    SIMPLE!

    Hope that helps you!

    ~HAPPY COOKING!~
