Making headlines at Monmore with a big win
It was another exciting morning at the races at the Monmore Green Greyhound Stadium today, with a thrilling 12-race card. Racing fans were treated to some great 480m races, coupled together with some very interesting results.
In the first race of the card, an A10 race held at 11:07, Maketheheadlines made headlines in a big way. He posted a win with a finishing time of 29.39. Coming into this race, Maketheheadlines was staked at 5-2 odds, but despite that, he has not the favourite to win.
That title was bestowed upon Makemeafortune, who was fortunate enough to place second. He finished just one length behind the winner in 29.47. Odds makers listed Makemeafortune with 2-1 odds before the race, but his second-place finish did not make a big fortune for racing fans.
Johnny Hooker (8-1) hooked himself up with a third-place finish in 29.95, putting him six lengths behind Makemeaforutne. Fourth place went to Monkspath Mufti (10-1), who was 2¼ lengths behind third place with a time of 30.13.

The 11:23 A9 race also saw a heavily favoured dog fail to take the top spot. That dog was Ballymac Sun, who was listed as the 6-4 favourite pre-race. However, despite the good odds, he placed third.
First place went to Tyrur Kelly, who finished the race with a great time of 28.82. Kilcarrig Doll, who carried 9-4 odds into this race, ended up 2¾ lengths behind the winner in second place. She finished in 29.04.
At ¾ lengths behind Kilcarrig Doll was favourite Ballymac Sun, who finished in 29.26 to lay claim on third place. Jenson Schilling (10-1) took fourth place in 29.98, a full nine lengths behind the third-place finisher.

Today was a tough day for the favourites at Monmore, as the A8 race at 11:37 saw another favourite’s chances at victory dashed. Before the race, Leonardos Rumble was ranked as the favourite to win with 9-4 odds. However, it was not meant to be, as he came in second place today.
Lakers Zeus (5-1) finished the race in 29.21 to take home a first-place victory, while Leonardos Rumble rumbled to a second-place finish in 29.41, which placed him 2½ lengths out of a win.
Icemaid Ayla (5-2) picked up a third-place finish in 29.47, which was only ¾ lengths behind second place. Roscoes Parked (6-1) parked himself in the fourth position with a time of 29.55, 1 length behind Icemaid Ayla.
Team Magic’s (7-2) magic could not get him a win today, as he finished fifth in 29.75. This put him 2½ lengths behind fourth place. Finishing in last place was Fisher Light (4-1), who completed the race in 30.03, 3½ lengths behind Team Magic.
