Making infrared goggles

instead of using those red gel film sheets, can i just use any red translucent plastic sheet? will the goggles still work?

To see IR, you can't just filter out non-IR light.  You need to take in IR and pump it up to something visible.  So any design will need to be powered or take advantage of a scintillator or something.
