  1. Keep your hands up, use your jab to set up your other punches, and slip the punches and counter.

  2. Just enjoy it!  I had always wished to be in the ring, but it never happened, but even if you never step in there again, You always can say you had that experience.  Feel out your opponent, double up on the jab, and listen to your corner!  Good Luck.

  3. Technique wise you should already know everything that you need, it would be a waste of yours and my time discussing those points.  However what I will say to you as well as relaxing and staying focused, what I like to do is find the guy I am fighting.  This is quite easily done in most amateur bouts as you have to warm up in the same area.  I go up to him and pretend I am his beat mate, make eye contact and don't break it.  You will find that most people will look away, then you know you will have the upper hand and walk away knowing you have already beating him.  If he doesn't look away then prepare for a scrap and relish the challenge and enjoy every punch you land.

Fight smart, be evasive and mix your punches :-)

Good luck and enjoy every min of the experience.

  4. I watch MMA a lot and I wonder sometimes about what state of mind to get into the ring with is better. Some guys seem to need to be real intense and some are relaxed. I think it is better to be relaxed but that is my bias. In my defense though it is also because of Fedor Emelianenko.

Since I am practical and no nonsense in most things, I find that the simple and basic truth is most calming. If I was getting into the ring, I think the most calming thing would be the acceptance of the fact that I could lose. Seem to make no sense?

Well, if I accept that I can lose then what else is there other than winning? Is there something going to be worse than losing? Would I be the only one in the history of humankind to bear the shameful burden of having lost? Of course not! There is no shame. It's just being human.

I think that accepting that kind of thing eliminates it from the equation. It puts it in the full light of day and exposes it for what it is. It's not some monster to fear. It's another mundane fact. There's really nothing at all for you to worry about. Free your mind of anything you don't need in it and remember what you have learned in the gym and have fun and do your best. Be in that moment. No past. No future. Right there and right then.

I hope this helps. Be cool and try your hardest and there is nothing else. Then come back and tell us how badly you beat the guy!

  5. Work the body and the head will fall.

  6. hit first, fast, and hard, keep moving, own the center of the ring, and put the feer of god in your openent

  7. Get into your "fight state of mind". Some people need to be real intense like one poster said, and some real calm. Choose which one you are most comfortable. Im a amateur boxer(16 years old) and I come out very calm, thats why its such a surprise when I knokk the other dude out. BUT whatever mind you are in, dont forget your technique. Dont forget what works for you and what doesnt. Also, to me, boxing is just another word for adjusting on the go. Make adjustments and dont be afraid to. Lets say your right jab is your knokkout punch. But whenever you throw it he slips it and hits you 3 times. Obviously, that punch isnt working so instead of keep doing it because its your best punch, throw the left. Its all about adjustments.

But since you prolly didnt have time to scout your opponent, jab for most of the 1st round and prolly some of the 2nd. Another thing that gets fighters in trouble is the crowd. Dont let the crowd get to you. If the crowd starts booing because you are trying to feel the other guy out, dont suddenly go in and straight throwing punch after punch trying to give them a good show. Stikk to your strategy. Listen to your corner. Also, the same thing with if you are "killing" your opponent. Just because you landed 20 flush shots and the crowd is cheering you, dont get cokky.

Lastly, dont get attached to the fight. If you get attached, you wont be able to make adjustments. You have to understand, this isnt a street fight, this is a boxing match. This is work for you. Dont get attached.

  8. fast combinations, quick body movement and hard attack on the body. some combinations you can use are:

    1. v-slip to the left of a jab

    left hook to the body

then strait right to the face

hook with you jabbing hand then immediately followed by a hook with that same hand followed by a strait punch with the other hand

    jab, cross, hook, hook

slip to one side and hook with one hand, then hook with the other. then end with an upper-cut with the first hand

lead with a strait cross then an upper-cut with the jabbing hand

    jab, jab, cross, hook, upper-cut

    when inside...

3 upper-cuts followed by an overhand right. the upper-cuts will disguise that last punch

use whatever combinations you can. remember even if the first 3 punches don't make it through it doesn't matter b/c they are just there to set up your 4, 5, and maybe sixth punch that will go through.

  9. Just remember don't let him land any good punches, always be moving, and land a ton of punches on your opponet...good luck tonight

  10. First Good Luck!

Making your debut is exciting , it's your first time, you want to make a lasting impression on judges and crowds so that they remember you. you are an entertainer now. People love action, just as with a great concert, or a  great magician, the crowd the music will have you pumped! I hope that you are in shape, have a great time and good luck once again....by the way what weight class and your name?

  11. ...just remember to keep moving. keep your guard up, and try to punch the daylights out of the other guy.....Best of luck for Tonight.

  12. Slow your mind down....your brain will be going 100 miles per hour, but you have to relax and think.....think about the plan you have and execute things. You have time, so be patient.
