Question:

Making my characters come to life?

okay so I'm redoing my story because i want to make my characters more "real". I'm trying to make them like you could just bump into this person in the mall (i mean if that's possible). well the main characters are young kids/ teens from new york, Brooklyn to be exact... yea, please help me out.

  1. I read a suggestion somewhere that I really like to do with my characters. You pretty much interview them. It can start off with you going to them to ask them questions for something. Write out how they would react or respond. Someone who likes being alone might be unwilling to talk, or might just walk away from the interview. An outgoing person or a showoff might brag or talk a lot.

    Make up a scenario, and write how your character would react. This strengthens their personality, since each character reacts to an event in a different way.

  3. I suggest creating a background for each character.  Think of what their story was before the events that take place in your book. Think of where they may have come from, what struggles they may have been through, what their family background is, etc.  Then write them based on this information.  This will make them seem more real and will give them each unique qualities and character traits.
