Question:

Making my own horse whip, part 2?

Ok i got alot of strange answers in my last questions, and like only two good ones. So i thought i would try again. And hopefully i wont get any tweenies to answer it.

First i will make two, a lounge whip, and a crop.

second, this isn't for any thing sexual so i don't see how its hott or g*y, or how i will need a belt. eww much

third I'm 16, so yes about thirty dollars is all i have to my name. And no i don't have any bigger problems, well expect the fact that were going to iowa, the day i might go trail riding.

and fourth MY FATHER PAYS FOR ALL THE MAJOR THINGS FOR MY HORSE! so if i my self don't have enough to buy a whip, no that does not mean i will sell my horse. My dad wont buy me one because he don't think i need it. My uncle wants to just use a stick or spurs. But i want to make my own whip. I will see how much they cost at C&S supply later today.

But, i don't want it to hurt my girl. I just want her to move when I'm riding her. She has it in her head that she doesn't need to, and i haven't been very helpful to that. So I'm just going to try a whip to get her going.

So what can i make that will get her going, but wont hurt her, and little tweenies don't worry I'm not going to beat my horse to death. So you don't need to say, why get a whip that just mean.

AND THANKS! i hope i get some real answers now.

  1. I like whips!!!

  2. you could get a stick of appropriate length and diameter, and somehow encase it/ or make a sleeve out of leather or nylon. then add a "slapper" at the end, or cotton/ rope/ or leather tassles (either several small ones or 2 large- width ones). you could also use bumper spurs, seems it might be easier to concentrate than focusing on one thing and slappin her at the same time.

  3. i dont like horse whips but use leather and cut it in 4 strings at the end

  4. Okay, I did answer your other question and you probably didn't like my answer.  I stand by it.

But since your FATHER PAYS FOR ALL THE MAJOR THINGS FOR YOUR HORSE, here's a suggestion for your longe (not "lounge") whip:

Get a 4 to 6 foot section of a tree sapling (branches/twigs removed) - or use an old fishing pole with all of the rings and riggings removed.  Attache a thin nylon rope (about 5 feet) to the end with duct or electrical tape.  Tie a little not about 4 inches from the end of the rope to keep it from fraying all the way back.

  5. Hi there, crops are very cheap to buy but if you really don't want to or can't then i would just get a stick about the right length. If you wear gloves when you're riding that will do fine. As for spurs unless you are an experienced rider do not use them thay are alot worse for the horse if used incorrectly than a whip. As for a lunge whip I used to tie hay twine on to the end of a stick (it even cracks!!) Good luck and I hope this was helpful.

  6. try this site...

    GOOD LUCK!!

  7. crops are usually very cheap to buy, about £3.00 and are made safely. so i wouldn't bother trying to make one. more expensive ones can be quite pretty, but will still do the job.  the time would be better used with your horse in a nice way rather than making a 'stick' of your own.

lazy ponies are hard work. i've ridden plenty so i do sympathise.
