Making my own t-shirt..?

my friends who are in a band are having a concert for the fair next week, and i was wanting to make my own tshirt saying their band's name. it's also my friend's birthday, so on the back i was going to right "happy birthday, blah blah blah" how should i make it? what kind of paint/marker/whatever should i use so it won't come off?

go to a place that makes iron ons and cutomizes clothing, or buy a kit at walmart that you can make an iron transfer on the comoputer then print it off and iron it on
