  1. One of the things I see is a lack of interest when the play doesn't revolve around you, the slot back.

The Defense will read this easily. The Outside linebacker will know when you are getting the ball and when you are bluffing if you fall into this habit.

Perfect execution at practice leads to perfect performance.

So as you practice, each and every play should be run as though you are getting the ball or have a principle purpose in the play.

    Every play.

If your job is to block, make sure you know which direction to move your man...and do so as low as you are comfortable...preferably at the hips. This will make your defensive opponent wary, every time you aim for him - he'll give you more respect (meaning more space) and this will allow you greater flexibility in your routes.

Learn how to cut into the grain or the flow of traffic by dipping your shoulder and learn how to make deeper cuts, tucking low, and exploding in the direction you wish to move.

Have a great season...and have fun.
