A recipe on the food network site says, use 'bulk italian sausage'....i'm just not sure what it is or WHERE to find that in the grocery store. When I think bulk italian sausage, I can only picture Polish sausage. Can't wait to hear your answers/suggestions. Serious responses only please, if I need a smart a$$ answer I'll ask my 10 yr old. :) Thanks!!!!!

  1. Bulk italian sausage is just sausage without the casings.

Check in the meat department for sweet or hot depending on taste.

Ot you can just cut it out of the casings.

  2. I believe "bulk" means it's not in the casings or it's not in links...it means like ground sausage.  You can ask the meat dept. at your local grocery store if they have it in this form, or you can go straight to a good pizza shop and ask if you can buy some of their sausage.  I owned a pizza shop for 5 years.  People used to always ask to purchase dough, or sauce, or pepperoni, etc...I would sell it to them all the time.  Good luck!

  3. Some grocery stores will have bulk Italian sausage in their freezers.  If they don't, all you have to do is get the Italian sausage that you prefer, and squeeze it out of the casings, and cook it up.  Italian sausage is soft and raw, and always has to be cooked. It is like breakfast sausage, you would never consider eating that raw.

  4. Easy to make yourself!

    get ground pork, not sausage

note that Italian sausage has that slight licorish taste? thats anise, or fennel, both about the same

For a pound of ground pork, use about a Tbsp of dried anise/or fennel seeds (slightly crushed).  A dash of your favorite taco sauce.  Salt & pepper.  Mix well.

Precook by browning about 3/4 of the way done before you add it to your pizza.

I've worked in pizza parlors and made my own pizza for years.  Hope this helps.

  5. It's probably in the meat case where the brats and link italian sausages are at. I know johnsonville makes bulk italian sausage. If you can't find bulk italian sausage, just get a pack of the link italian sausage and remove the casing.

  6. most supermarkets carry pork sausage in its casing. used for sausage and peppers or when making meat sauce

when making pizza remove sausgae meat from casing and fry it until browned then add to top of pizza

  7. hey, i dont kno about "bulk italian thnig" but, most butchers have salami an peperoni an all those italian sausages, an in the grocery stores, the deli usually have them too or also in grocery stores, u can get pre-packed sliced italian sausages an salami...ect ect

  8. If your town has just your basic average generic food store, you will have to travel to a more metropolitan area that has full service grocer and/or a gourmet foods / exotic foods section.
