Making power generators out of recycled parts, is it possible?

So solutions to domestic level power production are far from cheap (or carbon neutral) Is there a large source of usable machinery/scrap that can be turned into generators.

We have huge scrap yards all over the world (and the new phenomenon of Hi-tec scrap)

Surely it can be done and a robust blueprint be created and spread to all and sundry.

  1. So, you kludge together a generator from old Chevy's and dishwashers and this is more cost-effective than just simply manufacturing a generator from new generator parts? Then you just spit out a one size fits all "blueprint", so that this can be also be done with an old Saab and a broken refrigerator?

    No, not possible...

  2. Well, even if you manage to make a generator out of scrap parts, what are you going to do with it?

Generators have to be driven, by a gasoline engine, a wind turbine, a water wheel, something.

    .

  3. To make an operational generator you would need actual generator parts. They can be used, but not have different properties all together. If you could find metals with the same properties as those in a generator you could be successful.
