Making reservations for hotel?

I want to reserve a room for next month in Chicago. I know they will need a credit card number. however i would like to know if they would charge the card before or after we stay there. thanks

  1. Most reservations only require the credit card to "guarantee" the reservation and the hotel won't charge anything on the card until you check out (or stay longer than a week or so).

    However, some discount rates require an advance purchase and you have to read the rules & conditions to know exactly what is involved.


  2. Normally they charge you at the end because they like to take on extra charges, like parking, minibar, the p**n movies you will watch, etc.

    However, many upscale places will charge you a noshow charge or a night stay if you don't show up without giving them enough notice.

  3. When I reserved a room, they didn't charge the card until after our stay.
