  1. It's not by age so much as by size. If the necklace isn't supposed to be a surprise, measure his neck and add about 2" for comfort plus enough length for however it's going to fasten. Remember that this is the finished length, not how long to cut your cords.

    If you can't measure his neck, here are some guidelines, based on what size clothes he wears.

    S=14 - 14½    M=15 - 15½    L=16 - 16½    XL=17 - 17½ XXL=18 - 18½

    These are just NECKSIZES - you still need to add ease and fastening room.


  2. Depends on his neck size. Measure aound the base of his neck or ask his dress shirt sz....(NOT small, med, large but 15 or 15 1/2 etc) that will tell you how long to make it. )
