Salam Alaikum,

I am 30 weeks pregnant (Alhumdul'Allah) and during Ramadan this year I am not going to be able to fast because it is unhealthy for me and my baby. I was wondering if I have to make up for it at a later time. I know an older muslim women who told me that I do not have to. And what about if I missed a previous Ramadan due to breast feeding. I know that pregnancy and breast feeding are obvious reasons for a woman not to fast but I wanted to know if I have to make up for the days later. Thank you.

  1. Pregnant women only need to make up each day missed with one make-up day later on, instead of one day later on plus expiation (feeding of the poor).

  2. what do you hope to achieve by starving your self?

  3. Congratulations on your pregnancy.  May Allah grant you a pious child.

Sister there is really no need for you to miss all of Ramadan NEXT year because of breastfeeding.  By that time inshaAllah the child will be nearly one year old and surely taking solids and other liquids.  Breastmilk is produced on demand and many a fasting woman has done it.  Of course you don't HAVE to fast Ramadan while you are breastfeeding but why not give it a try?  You know the joy of Ramadan and fasting with everyone is really neat and missing out is sort of a bummer! lol

Just try one day and see how it goes, if you want I mean.  Allah make it easy for you.

I didn't read the link yet but i assume it says yes you must make up the fasts as that is what is correct.
