If you wished to make wood at least semi-flameproof, would there be any natural substance that you could put onto it, or is there a type of bark that is semi-flameproof? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

  1. "Realistically." That is why the make galvanized metal 2x4's.

  2. Oak is a self extinguishing wood. that's why they built loads of stuff with it. It produces a fire suppressing chemical when heated.

As far as "natural" substances - I'm not sure. Why does it have to be natural? If fireproofing is what you are after, I suggest that you let the chemists do what they do best. They are aware that a product won't sell well if it exudes noxious substances or is otherwise dangerous.

And, hey, if you want a natural fireproofing, get some asbestos. It's completely natural and a very effective fireproofing material.
