Question:

Making your kids fat?

I saw some kids the other day, they were approximately 3 and 5 and they were so fat that their knees were starting to buckle under the weight of their upper body The mother was skinny. Regardless of genetics, do you think that is is child abuse to make your children so extrordinarily overweight that their poor little bodies become deformed?

  1. I see it as Child neglect not Child Abuse. Child Abuse is when you physically hurt your child. By hitting them not by feeding them.

  2. It is prolly the mother feeding them junk food all their lives. being in a hurry or not wanting to cook or make them eat healthy homemade food, so they live on chips, cookies, McDonalds all the time, after a while it adds up, specially if they are not active. I blame the parent on that one, I would be so mad if that was a family member doing that to one of my cousins or nephews or something. They would hear an ear full. Very sad to see, you just wanna walk up to the mom and ask her what she is thinking. If I was a friend of hers i would call child services on someone like that.

  3. yes.

  4. I absolutely do feel that it is a form of child abuse...  to take care of a child and be a good parent you have responsibilities, one of which is keeping your child healthy, obese children are unhealthy children..  I hate when I see that and the poor kids are usually eating icecream or candy and soda and adding to the problem.  I feed my kids well with treats occasionally and they even like to do Denise Austin fit kids workout dvd and they are active in sports, not everyone needs kids like that but its all in how you raise them, my kids love broccoli and cauliflower and carrots and fruits, and people have made comments that they are weird,or not normal kids, no that is not it, they are healthy kids and will most likely grow up healthy adults...  don't get me wrong my kids love cake and cookies and icecream and soda... moderation is the trick!!!!!  Whew!!!  Just my opinion !!LOL

  5. yes I do. I think it should be illegal and considered being neglectful. I am all about not telling parents how to raise their children but letting your child get like that is actually very harmful to them. They never get the choice to be healthy, it is very hard once they grow up to make the right decisions when they were raised that way.

  6. I'd consider it child abuse. As a parent you are responsible for your child's health; and having them be obese is just leading them down the path of disorders, and not to mention a heck of a lot of teasing if the trend continued.

  7. Yes. My sister has a child that is morbidly obese and it is definitely a topic of discussion in my family. Because of her weight she is restricted in many activities other children normally do - running, playing outside in the summer, sports. Also she is at an age (9) where children are starting to pick on her which in turn, makes her sad. She also has major health issues looming (heart disease, diabetes). I admit I am furious with my sister for letting it get this bad because it is so preventable! If people took the 30 minutes out of the day to cook healthy meals there would not be a problem, yet fast and high calorie food is an obvious quicker option. Also kids now-days do not get enough exercise - period. Now video games and satellite TV make for a better lazy Saturday then going out and riding bikes with friends.

This subject hits me hard as my niece is near 140 pounds at the age of nine (I am 33 and weight nearly 20 pounds less and am a good foot taller). It is ridiculous at best. Parents need to take responsibility for their kids.

  8. Yes I do.  We hold coporations accountable for advertising to kids, why cant we hold parents responsible for making kids sick?
